This came about right after the Ft. Hood masacre by the military officer who was also a muslim convert. When asked if this was an act as a result of his religious beliefs, a commentator said that he was "hanging his hat on that excuse". There have been an awful lot of times in history when folks have hung their hat on that rack.
The caption should have been, "Time for a garage sale". Also, since introducing this Kartune, I realized that I overlooked the Mormon Massacre, and Salem Witch Trials.
